Whip It

Looks like a brainless teenage sports movie on the surface, but turns out to be a smart, funny and moving drama with a star cast, solid script, great performance by Page and an impressive directorial debut by Barrymore.

Attempt at a 'Sex and the City after Motherhood'. The poorly strung together mildly amusing anectodes and pointlessly quirky characters make for a messy and bland story. Thurman deserves better roles.
