The original screenplay by Theodor Holman holds the promise of a powerful one and a half hour dialog. But in this US version of the movie this promise is not cashed in by a poor performance from Steve Buscemi and a lack of chemistry between him and Sienna Miller. It’s like they’re both acting on their own side of the room, without connecting. Attentive detail is the appearance of the actress from the Dutch original, Katja Schuurman, coming out of a limo, and a picture in Sienna’s loft of Katja Schuurman and the original director, Theo van Gogh, who was murdered by a radical muslim in 2004.
