The journal Nature is undertaking a bold new step in the process of peer review of the articles submitted to the journal by hopeful scientists. For the next three months, Nature is offering authors the choice to submit their paper to an open preprint server where everyone and anyone who bothers to register with Nature can comment on the scientific work presented and scrutinise it. Take a look at the first brave buggers who opened up their scientific treasury to public peer review.

Update 21 December 2006: Nature has ended its open peer review trial, and it looks like we won’t be seeing a continuance any time soon.
