Although the practise of attemtping to control and distort the science of political issues is commonplace in many governments, the Bush administration has a reputation for raising this art to perfection. Therefore, the Union of Concerned Scientists (UCS), which campaigns on environmental, health and military issues, has announced the Science Idol contest. They invite amateur cartoonists to make fun of the Bush administration’s interference in science. They have posted a long list of examples of abuse of science on their website. Can’t wait to see the winning entries!
Update: Click here to listen to a ping-pong conversation on Science Friday between Tom Bethell and Chris Mooney about the use and misuse of scientific facts by the Bush administration.
